Korea-funded pedestrian road along Huong River in Hue city inaugurated
The road paved with wooden slabs connects Nguyen Dinh Chieu pedestrian street with Ly Tu Trong Park.
Hue city People’s Committee has inaugurated a pedestrian road along Huong River on January 15.
The project construction started in February 2018 at a cost of over VND52.9 billion (US$2.27 million) sponsored by South Korea government via the Korea International Cooperation (KOICA).
Speaking at the inaugurate ceremony, Chairman of the Hue People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thanh said that the project aims to creating a breakthrough on urban development and attract more visitor to Hue in the near future.
The project includes a 450m ironwood-floored pedestrian bridge, a wharf, an outdoor stage, lighting and traffic systems and a pedestrian street along the Perfume riverbank from Phu Xuan bridge to Festival restaurant. The road connects Nguyen Dinh Chieu pedestrian street with Ly Tu Trong Park.
South Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Kim Do-hyon said the work is a symbol of friendship, solidarity and people-to-people linkage between the Vietnam and South Korea, adding that many other projects between the two countries will be launched across Vietnam as well as in Hue city.
The number of visitors arriving in Thua Thien-Hue in the first seven months of 2018 was estimated at 2.79 million, including more than 1.16 million foreigners, up 9.35% and 41.02% respectively from the previous year, according to the provincial Department of Tourism.
In which, South Korea continued to lead the countries with the highest number of tourists visiting Hue, accounting for one-third of the total number of foreign arrivals to the central city. The province’s tourism sector earned VND2.6 billion in the period, an increase of more than 32% over last year.
