Launching 2015 Global Road Safety Week in Vietnam

The Ministry of Transportation launched a programme in response to the UN 3rd Global Road Safety Week with the theme “Children and road safety” on May 4 in Hanoi.

In the 2015 Global Road Safety Week lasted from May 4 to 10, information on typical traffic crash causes and their effects on children will be disseminated nationwide to raise awareness of community for the need to protect children, said an official from the Ministry of Transportation.
The programme was co-organised by the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation (AIPF) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The programme urges children to wear helmets and abide by traffic laws.
According to WHO statistics, more than 1.24 million people are killed in traffic accidents globally each year. In Vietnam , around 2,000 children die annually in road traffic accidents, mainly due to not wearing helmets.
