Legendary violinist Shlomo Mintz to perform in Hanoi

World violin legend Shlomo Mintz will give a special performance in Hanoi together with violinists Bui Cong Duy, Chuong Vu and conductor Oliver Ochanie,

A concert entitled Shlomo Mintz and Friends will be held at the Vietnam Academy of Music, 77 Hao Nam Street, Hanoi, featuring world violin legend Shlomo Mintz.

He comes to Vietnam at the invitation of meritorious artist Bui Cong Duy, deputy director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, and violinist Chuong Vu, artistic director of the Vietnam Connection Music Festival.

Talented artist Shlomo Mintz said he had heard a lot and wanted to learn more about Vietnamese culture.

"For a long time, I wanted to tour Vietnam to see everything with my own eyes. I have been waiting for this day for a long time, so I am very excited. Artists Bui Cong Duy and Chuong Vu came to pick me up at the airport, which is such a warm welcome," he said.

During his stay in Hanoi, violinist Shlomo Mintz will give a lesson to students of the Vietnam National Academy of Music at its Grand Concert Hall on the evening of September 8.

The concert will also feature Meritorious Artist Bui Cong Duy, violinist Chuong Vu, the Hanoi Symphony Orchestra, and the Sun Symphony Orchestra conducted by Olivier Ochanine. Part 1 of the repertoire will be conducted by the legendary Shlomo Mintz himself.

The program is set to include Antonio Vivaldi's iconic Concerto for 2 and 3 Violins, as well as a performance of one of the greatest concertos of all time, Ludwig Van Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major, Opus 61.

Shlomo Mintz will perform on a precious instrument called "Vesuvius" by Antonio Stradivarius.

He has dedicated his entire life to music and is considered one of the foremost violinists of modern times, esteemed for his impeccable musicianship, stylistic versatility, and commanding technique.

Born in Moscow in 1957, he emigrated to Israel at the age of 2. He began playing the violin with his father at the age of three and a half and studied with the renowned Ilona Feher from the age of six to sixteen.

He made his concerto debut at the age of 11 with the Israel Philharmonic and played the Paganini Violin Concerto at the age of 13. At the age of 16, he performed at Carnegie Hall with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

As a recipient of an American-Israel Cultural Foundation Award, under the auspices of Isaac Stern, he began his studies with Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School of Music in New York from the age of 16 to 21.

At the age of eighteen, Shlomo Mintz added conducting to his artistic endeavors. Since then, he has conducted acclaimed orchestras around the world.

Mintz has served as a jury member for several prestigious international competitions, including the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow (1993) and the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in Brussels (1993 and 2001). In October 2001, Mintz held the position of Jury President at the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poznan, Poland.

Currently, he acts as a mentor and serves as the Jury President for the Buenos Aires International Violin Competition in Argentina. He also holds the positions of Jury President and Artistic Director for the Tucuman Festival and National Violin Competition in Argentina. Additionally, he serves as the President of the Munetsugu Angel Violin Competition in Japan and the Ilona Fehér Budapest Violin Competition in Hungary.
