Life art performance: A convergence of cultural essence and heritage

On Con Dao Island, life is a unique art performance, a symphony of the human spirit and breathtaking nature.

Pure feelings have been evoked toward the beauty of life and eternal nature by the delicate interactions between man and nature, contemporary art and cultural heritage displayed in the Life art project on Con Dao Island.

Life project hopes to convey the beauty of nature with a positive attitude to cherish and preserve it through artistic performances, hands-on activities and in-depth events, such as the Action for Marine and Biodiversity Forum; snorkeling at Thien Duong beach under the guidance from certified experts; trekking among mountain ranges amidst pristine forests; and especially, the Zen Performance which showcased the interaction between the artist and the rock, sand and waves, enabling the audience to experience the pure and tranquil nature in peace and serenity...

The highlight of the project is the Zen Performance, which will take place on May 4 and 6, bringing together hundreds of international and Vietnamese artists to create a multi-dimensional, multi-sensory experience.

Director Tuan Le said the most impressive part of the performance is the outdoor stage set up by the seaside.

The dances of Life, Fishing Village, Tightrope Walking… were performed by talented dancers on bamboo poles above the sea surface, evoking overwhelming emotions. The music is also a factor that made the audience ecstatic. They could recognize the humble tones of everyday life, the lively sound of the village drum and the delicate ringing of the wind chime in the peaceful coastal area.

The organizers also held auctions to raise funds for the protection of the environment and the preservation of national art, culture and heritages. Photo: Life project

Among the world-renowned artists are Laurence Tremblay Vu, a multi-talented Canadian-Vietnamese tightrope walker who has performed around the world, and percussionist Allen Wu, who has contributed to The Lion King musical and recorded music for many famous films in Vietnam.

The organizers also displayed paintings and a system of stone musical instruments as a first indication of the symphony of nature. The artistic performance program celebrated the beauty of simple life, where man and nature depend on each other and live in harmony.

"We see Life as a very special project, and accompanying the project is also one of the missions that the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations has been consistently pursuing for the past 30 years - to contribute to the protection, preservation and promotion of the beautiful cultural and artistic heritage values to the community," said Tran Van Manh, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations.

Manh said this project helps raise awareness of the importance of nature and the environment. From this, it promotes love, respect and appreciation for what nature has given.

"We believe that Life will have a great ripple effect, calling on the whole society to have a harmonious attitude towards nature and the environment, to take action to protect the environment, and to preserve and maintain the invaluable and irreplaceable cultural-historical and natural values for the present and future generations," he said.

The organizers also held auctions to raise funds for environmental protection and preservation of national art, culture and heritage. All proceeds (after deducting the cost of the items and related taxes) will be transferred to Con Dao National Park and Con Dao District People's Committee for the preservation and protection of Con Dao's environment.

According to Nguyen Khac Pho, Director of Con Dao National Park, the rich and diverse biological potential of forests and seas, the stunning natural landscapes of Con Dao, and its pristine yet magnificent natural beauty are prominent highlights that have attracted the most attention from scientists, researchers, tourism organizations, travel agencies, as well as domestic and international tourists. Since 2018, Six Senses Con Dao has been collaborating with Con Dao National Park, and to date, 19,276 turtle hatchlings have been released into the sea.
