Master plan of Hanoi station and the surrounding areas: Feasible and Sensible
On September 28 at the press release of the Ministry of Transport on the performance review of the first 9 months and objectives of the 4th Quarter, leaders of the ministry have shown support to the proposal.
At the meeting, in addition to information with regard to the Ministry of Transport’s performance review of the first 9 months of 2017 and the objectives of the remaining 3 months, representative of the Ministry of Transport has given answer with regard to the proposal of the master plan of Hanoi station and the surrounding areas.
As such, the Vice Minister of Transport Nguyen Ngoc Dong said, the Ministry has reviewed the information and is cooperating with Hanoi People’s Committee and other related agencies in discussing specific solutions for the proposal “the master plan for Hanoi station is to plan for a large area, which is not simple just for Hanoi station. From our perspective, we regard the proposal as feasible and sensible” – Mr. Dong said.
According to the Vice Minister of Transport, the master plan of Hanoi station and the surrounding areas is included in the master plan of Hanoi, which has been studied and reviewed for a long time. The master plan of Hanoi station will have significant meaning to the overall development of Hanoi in long term. Mr. Dong said, in principle, the master plan of Hanoi station or any other master plan in Hanoi has to be suitable with the overall master plan of the city. This issue has been thoroughly discussed and studied by responsible experts. The master plan of Hanoi station is not only for the benefit of urban area, but also for the upgrade and improvement of Hanoi transport infrastructure, which is currently being overloaded. “We are cooperating with Hanoi to review the proposal. However, at present, not only Hanoi, but also Ho Chi Minh city is facing the situation of overloaded transport infrastructure. As such, the transport infrastructures in these two cities meet the public transport demand of 7 – 8%, while it should be around 16 – 17%. With regard to the density, according to criteria, for 1,000 people there should be 9 – 10km2 road” – The Vice Minister of Transport Nguyen Ngoc Dong said.
In term of building high rise buildings in the center of Hanoi station, the Vice Minister said, Hanoi station is the center, which plays an essential role for the international railway routes. Especially, in the recent master plan of the high speed railway, the location of Hanoi station is very important. Therefore, the master plan of Hanoi station and the surrounding areas will have to take into consideration the density of transport vehicles go in and out of the station. This has to be in harmony and suitable with the overall transport density of the country. “The issue of building high rise building in the center of Hanoi station is raising concern over the operation of the station. However, at present, as there are no high rise buildings in the center, there will be no problem with regard to the negative impact of the construction. We will consult with Hanoi to review the center space of the station, so that there will be no apartments to be built but offices and other trade buildings. Through this kind of buildings, the city will have more revenue for the state budget” – The Vice Minister Nguyen Ngoc Dong said.
