There were more than 2,500 Vietnamese students in New Zealand at the end of 2017, with the number of secondary school students increasing by 36% compared to 2016, while university student numbers also grew by 14%.The number of Vietnamese students pursuing a bachelor degree at universities in New Zealand puts it among the top 3 of all Southeast Asian countries, said Education New Zealand (ENZ) at a press conference on July 26.

“As New Zealand’s third largest source market within Southeast Asia for international students, Vietnam is a crucial market for New Zealand education institutions,” Burrowes added.
According to New Zealand’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Wendy Matthews, New Zealand is proud to be a trusted education partner of Vietnam, one example of this is the renewed Strategic Engagement Plan on Education in 2018 – 2020 signed during three-day visit to New Zealand of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in March 2018.
The renewed Strategic Engagement Plan on Education 2018 – 2020 targets to increase the number of Vietnamese students in New Zealand by 30% by 2020, facilitate further student exchanges, university-to-university joint programs and other cooperation in both countries.
“There is a great opportunity and potential in further strengthening this partnership between Vietnam and New Zealand. In addition, New Zealand looks forward to welcoming more Vietnamese students to the country in the near future,” said the ambassador.
In addition, ENZ’s representative has announced a plan to organize New Zealand Education fairs in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi from September 22 to 23.
