Nearly 90% of Hanoi population covered with health insurance

In the time ahead, Hanoi city will simultaneously implement solutions to have more compulsory participation in social insurance, unemployment insurance, and voluntary social insurance.

The number of health insurance enrollments in Hanoi reached over 6.9 million people, or 89.4% of the city’s population, by the end of October, according to the Government Portal.

Meanwhile, the number of people participating in compulsory social insurance in the city was more than 1.7 million, an increase of 19,939 people compared to September, meeting 97.83% of the target.

The number of people participating in unemployment insurance was over 1.6 million, an increase of 61,969 people compared to September 2019, or 98.6% of the target.

In addition, the number of people participating in voluntary social insurance was 33,149, an increase of 2,881 people compared to September, or 70.44% of the target.

Total income of social, health and unemployment insurance by the end of October was VND34,556.6 billion (US$1.486 billion), reaching 79.64% of the target and up 12.5% year-on-year.

Earlier, the Hanoi Social Security set the target to increase the coverage of social and health insurance to 100% in 2019. As such, social and unemployment insurance throughout the city will reach 90% of the people who are subject to; health insurance will reach 88.2% of Hanoi’s population, and the growth rate of voluntary social insurance participants is set at 30% or more.

In 2018, Hanoi's coverage of health insurance reached 85.6% of the population, 1.2 percentage points above the target assigned by the municipal People's Council and People's Committee, according to the Hanoi Social Security’s report at a conference on January 10.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Ngo Van Quy asked the Hanoi Social Security to fulfill and surpass the targets assigned by the municipal People's Council in 2019.

Quy asked the Hanoi Social Security to focus raising the coverage of health insurance to 88.2%; 90% of employees will participate in compulsory social insurance and the growth rate of voluntary social insurance will reach 30%.

In the time ahead, the city will simultaneously implement solutions to have more compulsory participation in social insurance, unemployment insurance, and voluntary social insurance.
