Hanoi will work to increase social, unemployment, and voluntary insurance coverage.
By the end of December 2023, the number of people enrolled in health insurance in Hanoi reached nearly 7.9 million, or 93.5% of the city's population, according to Hanoi Social Security.
Meanwhile, the number of people signed up for compulsory social insurance in the city was more than 2.1 million, an increase of 5.9% of the target.

The number of people covered by unemployment insurance was over 1.9 million, an increase of 3.1% of the 2023 plan.
The total premium income of social, health and unemployment insurance by the end of 2023 was VND60.5 trillion (US$2.5 billion), up 11.5% year-on-year.
The Hanoi Social Security Department set a target to increase social and medical insurance coverage to 100% in 2023. Thus, social and unemployment insurance has covered 90% of people in the city, while 88.2% of the city's population is under medical insurance, and the growth rate of voluntary social insurance enrollment is set at 30% or more.
Director of the Hanoi Social Security Phan Van Men said the city would also proactively increase unscheduled inspections of enterprises and health facilities that show signs of profiteering from social insurance and health insurance funds.

"As the benefits of health insurance have expanded and the quality of medical examination and treatment has improved, more and more Hanoi residents have applied for health insurance. The results have contributed to ensuring social welfare and improving the quality of healthcare for people in the capital," Men said.
The director emphasized that through measures to maintain the sustainability of health insurance and increased communication efforts, Hanoi residents are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of having health insurance.
"The collection of social, medical and unemployment insurance premiums and the coverage rate have increased year on year. In the time ahead, the insurance industry will continue to promote administrative reform, apply information technology in professional activities, and create favorable conditions for social and medical insurance enrollment and benefit claims," Men said.
He stressed that Hanoi Social Security will focus on expanding health insurance coverage and strive to have 100% of students enrolled in health insurance.
