Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment Schultz Van Hagen on December 16 handed over the “Mekong Delta Project” to Viet Nam at a High level meeting on a shared framework for Mekong Delta Development.

The project proposes initiatives on developing agriculture based on natural advantages of the Mekong Delta and recommendations related to water resources management to respond to climate change.
On behalf of the Vietnamese Government, Deputy PM Vu Van Ninh agreed with the recommendations of the Dutch side and asked ministries and agencies to make plans to integrate with socio-economic development and coordinate with localities to realize the project.
The Vietnamese Government will bring into full play its internal forces and expand the private-public cooperation and take advantages of foreign and non-governmental organizations’ investment to launch projects to develop the region, he stressed.
Viet Nam will create favorable conditions for investors to launch the project, he asserted.
At the meeting, representatives of the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and other delegates from Germany, Australia and Japan committed to supporting the development of the Mekong Delta in the future.
