Nguyen Dynasty royal documents recognized as Global Memory of the World
UNESCO has recognized the Nguyen Dynasty`s official documents as a documentary heritage of the world.
At a general meeting of the Memory of the World Committee for Asia/Pacific in China’s Guangzhou from May 13 to 15, experts hailed the authenticity and value of the documents that are being preserved at the National Archives Center No. 1.
The documents include those on laws, decrees, edicts, and instructions for resolving problems in various spheres like politics, military, foreign affairs, economy, society, and culture. The valuable treasure also contains contents affirming Vietnam’s sacred sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes.
This is Vietnam’s fourth entry in UNESCO’s Global Memory of the World Program.
The other three are the doctor laureate steles in Hanoi’s Quoc Tu Giam or Temple of Literature, woodblocks of the Nguyen Dynasty, and a collection of woodblocks carved with Buddhist sutras held at the Vinh Nghiem Pagoda in the northern province of Bac Giang.
