Top Vietnamese female swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won a gold medal in the women’s 400m medley at the Asian Swimming Championships that opened in Tokyo on April 17.

However, this is nott Vien’s best timing in this category. At the FINA World Cup in Tokyo last year, she clocked 4:34.50. Of other Vietnamese representatives, Tran Duy Khoi ranked sixth in the men’s 400m medley with a time of 4:26.40, while Le Nguyen Paul was 13th in the men’s 50m breaststroke with a time of 28.82secs.
Lam Quang Nhat finished 15th in the men’s 200m freestyle with a time of 1:55.16, and Tran Ngoc Thi stood in 10th place in the women’s 200m butterfly event with a time of 2:27.01.
The young woman from the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho won eight gold medals and broke eight records at the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Singapore, which wrapped up on June 16. She has been elected as one of the five best athletes at the tournament by The New Paper of Singapore, together with Singaporean swimmer Joseph Schooling, Thai table tennis player Suthasini Sawettabut, Thai footballer Chanathip Songkrasin, and finally the Filipino rugby team.
She has been named Vietnam's Athlete of the Year in both 2013 and 2014.[3] As of the end of 2014, she holds the Vietnam Records in 14 of 17 long course individual events. At the 2012 Olympics, she swam the 200 Backstroke and the 400 Individual Medley. Vien is a serving military officer with the rank of captain.
