Number of traffic accidents declines in first three days of Tet

According to the report of the National Traffic Safety Committee, the number of traffic accidents, fatalities, and injuries in the first three days of the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2016 significantly declined compared to that of the 2015 Tet holiday.

The National Traffic Safety Committee has reported fewer serious traffic accidents in the period.
Especially, from February 7-9, about 104 traffic accidents occurred across the country, killing 64 people and injuring 98 others.
The figures saw a year-on-year decline of 78 cases, 43 fatalities, and 59 injuries.
The committee has asked relevant agencies, departments, sectors and localities to push ahead with the implementation of the Prime Minister’s official telegram 2313/CĐ-TTg issued in December 2015 on ensuring traffic safety and order for people during the festive events in this year.

Police forces were required to step up inspection and strict punishment on any violations such as exceeding speed limits, infringing alcohol restrictions, and driving without wearing a helmet.
Besides, it is necessary to increase awareness campaigns to that end.
Particularly, the traffic police in Hanoi and HCM City, where are anticipated to gather various people in the last days of Tet,  was suggested to arrange sufficient forces to ensure traffic order and safety.
