Opening “Vietnam in my eyes” photo exhibition
The Vietnam-US Society in collaboration with the US Embassy in Vietnam organised a photo exhibition themed “Vietnam in my eyes” of US`s painter Soraya Runkel at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum (36 Ly Thuong Kiet street, Hanoi) on December 8.
Attending the opening ceremony were: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc, Chairman of Vietnam-US Society Nguyen Tam Chien and representatives from the US Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of Vietnam-US Society Nguyen Tam Chien emphasized that “Vietnam in my eyes” exhibition of American painter Soraya Runkel is one of significant cultural activities in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the normalisation of Vietnam - US diplomatic relations.
He expressed his hope that, the exhibition helps Vietnam viewers understand deeply the important events in the relationship between Vietnam and the US in the past two decades as well as emotional love of the American painter Soraya Runkel to Vietnam.
The exhibition is showcasing more than 40 paintings by painter Soraya Runkel, the spouse of Chris Runkel who was the first American diplomat sent to Vietnam to prepare for the normalisation of relations between the two countries.
The photos describe the events back in 1995, including the signing ceremony of the agreement on the normalisation of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US. The paintings also reflect the Vietnamese people’s daily life.
At the event, Soraya Runkel said all the painting works will be auctioned with part of the money collected initiating a fund supporting children with disabilities and disadvantaged backgrounds to learn painting as a livelihood.
The exhibition will last until December 10.
