Over 10,000 people join BBGV-hosted Fun Run for Charity in HCM City

Over the past 17 years, the British Business Group Vietnam (BBGV) has raised about VND10 billion (US$430,000) for the charitable activities in Vietnam and attracted more than 100,000 people.

In a five-kilometer race, runners and walkers were divided into three categories: men, women and teenagers. This year’s event raised more than VND1 billion (US$43,000) for charitable activites.
According to the organizing board, BBGV has raised about VND10 billion (US$430,000) for charitable activities in Vietnam and attracted more than 100,000 people over the past 17 years.
In 2017 alone, the event raised nearly VND1 billion (US$43,000) and drew about 10,000 participants. With the funding, the program provided the Saigon Children charitable organization with 12 scholarships worth VND100 million (US$4,300) to help needy students.
It also provided scholarships worth VND170 million (US$7,310) for 112 needy female students Hau Giang province, while giving VND270 million (US$11,610) to build a kindergarden in Da Bop village in Dien Bien province, and cooperating with Loerto organization to upgrape toilets in A Phu Hoi primary school in An Giang province.
BBGV started as a luncheon club in 1991 and was first licensed in 1998. The BBGV now boasts more than 450 members. Its main objective is to promote members’ business interest in Vietnam, through various business and social events.
The BBGV Business Center aims to facilitate better trade ties between British and Vietnamese companies via their trade services. Apart from business links, they focus their resources and dedication on charity work. For example, the group organizes the annual Ho Chi Minh City Fun Run for Charity since 2000, as part of its commitment to building linkages with the local community.
