The Ministry of Health has made great efforts in controlling cancer, but its situation in Vietnam remains at an alarming level.
Cancer kills around 115,000 Vietnamese every year and so far in 2018, the number of cancer deaths has reached 114,871, newswire Zing.vn reported.
Fresh cancer cases in Vietnam have escalated for years, resulting in surge in deaths. In 2018, 164,671 new cases of cancer have been detected.
According to Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, cancer management is still a big challenge for the world’s medicine. Not only requiring modern knowledge and technical skills, cancer treatment also needs the efforts of the patients and their families as well as the support from the social community, she said.
Within the framework of the visit by French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe in Vietnam, Hospital K, the leading cancer hospital in Vietnam, signed a cooperation agreement with France's Curie Hospital on November 4. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan, director of the Vietnamese hospital, said that the move responds to his institution's desire to take advantage of foreign expertise in cancer management.
Curie Hospital is home to more than 3,400 researchers, doctors and technicians, with multi-disciplinary treatment and customized cancer management. Each year, the hospital treats more than 14,000 cancer patients.
