Director of Hanoi Department of Education and Training Chu Xuan Dung highly valued the participation of Hanoi’s localities and schools in actively implementing the school milk project.
After nearly a month of launching the school milk project in Hanoi, 74% of primary and preschool children across the city have participated in the program.
Many districts have a high rate of students in public schools drinking milk such as Hoan Kiem, Dong Anh (100%), Son Tay town (98%).
Pham Ngoc Tuan, head of Political Department under the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that according to the general assessment, 100% of Hanoi’s schools have cooperated so that children could drink safe milk from the first day.
In addition to being nurtured in a scientific way, children who drink milk are also educated about nutrition and a sense of hygiene and environmental protection.
However, there is still a low rate of participation in the project such as in Thuong Tin (49%) and Chuong My (59%) districts. Along with that, many schools raised their concerns about the transportation, milk storage and garbage collection when deploying the project.

Dung proposed that Hanoi’s localities and schools should continue to provide accurate and timely information so that parents can understand the scientific meaning, humanity and benefits of drinking milk for raising height and fitness for children and will agree to let their children participate the project.
The school milk project was approved on July 5 by the Vietnamese Children Council and has been implemented under the prime minister’s decision.
It targets improving the nutritional status of preschool and primary children by 2020 through the daily intake of milk.
Children will drink fresh pasteurized milk, with or without sugar, ordered separately by Hanoi. Milk supplemented with a number of micronutrients, minerals, which is not sold on the market and have their own stamp.
Every kindergarten, primary school pupils drinks milk five times a week (once a day at school), each 180 ml. This is maintained during the nine months of attendance in every school year.
The 30% of the school milk project is sourced from the budget, 20% from the subsidizing company and 50% from the contribution of the parents.
The project will be implemented from 2018-2019 until the end of 2020 in the spirit of voluntary parental involvement.
