Prior to the 12th National Party Congress which will open on January 20, Party members and people nationwide expect that the Communist Party of Vietnam will continue to increase transparency, promote national unity and socialist democracy, comprehensively push forward the renewal, and strive for national construction and defense.
People throughout Vietnam have expressed their wish that the Congress will decide strategic orientations on national development.
Selecting competent people, promoting democracy
Lawyer Le Duc Tiet, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Advisory Council on Democracy and Laws, says Vietnamese people expect that the 12th National Party Congress will determine orientations to continue the renewal process in order to take advantage of last year’s achievements and overcome this year’s challenges.
He said the Party Congress should elect people with competence and morality to lead the nation through difficulties towards sustainable growth and global integration. Tiet said: “The Party has to select talented people, who have contributed to national development and are admired by the people, regardless their ages and former positions.”
Promoting national unity and socialist democracy are important matters. Do Duy Thuong, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Advisory Council on Democracy and Laws, says the draft document of the 12th National Party Congress has expanded the connotation of “socialist democracy”. Thuong said: “The people expect the state to advance democracy. I suggest the state issue laws on people’s rights to democracy and mastery in line with the Constitution. The rights are manifested in people’s participation in overseeing activities of state agencies, elected deputies, and state employees, Party and State building.”
Reinforcing national unity
Lu Van Que, former Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, said in order to enhance national and religious unity and concord, it’s important to uphold principles and methods of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh: “First of all we have to ensure democracy and care about people’s interests. If we can ensure democracy and harmoniously resolve interests among ethnic groups and social strata, we’ll have consensus and unity. We have to reform ethnic affairs work.”
Continuing to develop the economy
