PM Dung receives Yonhap news agency president

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received Song Hyun-Seung, President of the Yonhap News Agency from the Republic of Korea, in Hanoi on May 28.

The PM hailed the agency for its impartial coverage of Vietnam’s socio-economic situation and the Vietnam-RoK relations, including China’s illegal placement of an oil rig in Vietnam’s waters.

He asked Yonhap to continue its objective and truthful reporting on developments in the East Sea and Vietnam ’s goodwill measures in solving disputes peacefully in line with international law.
PM Dung voiced his pleasure at flourishing ties between Vietnam and the RoK in various fields, and expressed his support of the cooperation between the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and Yonhap.
In response, Song said that his Vietnam visit aims at stepping up the partnership between Yonhap and VNA. He informed PM Dung that the two news agencies have signed a new agreement on professional cooperation.
He pledged to exert every effort to bolster the Vietnam-RoK collaboration, contributing to their time-tested relations.
Earlier the same day, VNA General Director Nguyen Duc Loi had talks with Yonhap President Song Hyun-Seung.
The two sides agreed to foster the exchange of experience and information on the Vietnamese and RoK communities living in the other country.
The agencies also agreed to work closer at multilateral forums in order to improve the role of media in solving regional and international issues of mutual concern.
After their talks, VNA and Yonhap inked a new cooperation agreement, focusing on the exchange of news in texts, photos and video clips. They will also maintain the exchanges of visits by both senior officials and journalists.
The VNA and Yonhap signed an agreement on news exchange in September 2007 and a MoU on the exchange of multi-media products in 2009
