Quang Nam to hold numerous activities to celebrate UNESCO recognition of Hoi An and My Son
The celebration aims to introduce outstanding values of Hoi An, My Son, and Cham Island to people and tourists.
Quang Nam province People’s Committee has just issued a plan to organize a spate of cultural activities in 2019 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of UNESCO’s recognition of Hoi An ancient town and My Son Sanctuary as world heritage sites and the 10th anniversary of the World Biosphere Reserve Cham Island.
Accordingly, all activities will be held in May, September and December 2019, including the 20th anniversary ceremonies of UNESCO’s recognition of Hoi An ancient town and My Son Sanctuary as world heritage sites, the 10th anniversary of the World Biosphere Reserve Cham Island, a conference to review the conservation of Hoi An and My Son over the past 20 years and a workshop on the role of local communities in preserving the heritage sites in Quang Nam province.
In addition, a photo exhibition on Hoi An in the past two decades, a display of local handicraft products and an exhibition of books on the world heritage town will be held in the ancient town of Hoi An.
Hoi An town will organize the tour with theme “Indochina Heritage Tour” and VTV Cup International Women's Volleyball Championship 2019 will take place in the province.
Meanwhile, in Duy Xuyen district where My Son Sanctuary is located, there will be My Son-inspired arts performances and a display of photos and artefacts of the relics in the My Son complex.
Earlier, Hoi An has been named among list top 16 of the most relaxing places in the the world. It's no surprise the UNESCO-protected ancient town of Hoi An in Vietnam's central coast is a mecca for tourists, according to CNN, a US Cable News Network.
“When the sun is out on the riverside, it's hard to find anywhere more serene in this wonderful country. The cafés that line the water all serve bia hoi, a fresh, light local beer that's brewed daily. Sitting in the shade, glass in hand, watching the world go by, is every bit as relaxing as an afternoon on the town's long stretch of sand,” CNN wrote.
