People’s Committee of the northern province of Quang Ninh organised a ceremony to announce the establishment of the provincial Tourism Department on May 9.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Long said the formation of the department aim to build Quang Ninh into the country’s top tourist centre which owns a modern infrastructure and diverse, unique and competitive tourism products.
Quang Ninh province will focus on developing tourism as a key economic sector, creating a motivation to grow the locality's socio-economy rapidly and substantially, he added.
It is in accordance with the province’s economic development orientation, turning from a “brown” into a “green” economy, according to Chairman Long.
He urged the department to coordinate with related agencies to provide optimal conditions for investors to promptly deloying projects and create the best conditions for people to do business in tourism sector.
Quang Ninh is home to the World Natural Heritage of Ha Long Bay, hundreds of national relic sites and several famous resort cities such as Ha Long, Van Don, and Mong Cai.
Quang Ninh's tourism sector has gained remarkable achievements in the recent years, showed clearly through the growth in the number of tourists visiting the locality and turnover from the sector.
In 2014, Quang Ninh welcomed 7.5 million visitors, including 2.6 million foreigners, and reached 5.5 trillion VND in revenue from tourism sector.
The locality targets to receive about 10.5 million tourists in 2016.
