Film Screenings at Okia Cinema this Weekend.
“Chungking Express”
The movie consists of two almost-separate stories about the romantic relationship between two police officers and two women. The actors from the first story are Kaneshiro Takesi and Brigitte Lin, and from the second are Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Faye Wong.
The original title of the movie, meaning Chungking Jungle, implies the “concrete jungle” of skyscrapers in the city, Chungking is also the name of a large resident building, where most of the event in the first story take place. The movie’s English title – Chungking Express – is a combination of the main locations in each story, Chungking Mansions and Midnight Express (the name of the fast food store where Faye Wong’s character works).
Quentin Tarantino said that when he watched this movie, all he could do is cry. He cried not only because the love stories are so sad, so touching and so beautiful, but also because he got to see a true cinema masterpiece, a beautiful work in each of its frame, an artwork for true lovers of cinema.
“Fallen Angels”
Fallen Angels was inspired by many details in Chungking Express, a huge success of Wong Kar-wai. He Qiwu in Chungking Express is now Cop 223, who has fallen in love with a woman in blonde wig. Midnight Express, the workplace of He Qiwu in Fallen Angels is also that of Faye Wong’s character in Chungking Express.
A movie telling the never-ending love stories of 4 fallen angels! A coldblooded assassin with a broken love in his heart that he cannot open up with his “partner in crime” or the blonde girl who works at the fast food store.
A muted young man who always gets in trouble with the police. He harbored feelings for a quirky girl who is also having feelings for another man.
These vain angels, chasing each other like shadows… so close yet so far.
Time: From Saturday November 24 to Sunday November 25 at 3:00 pm
Venue: Okia Cinema, 639/39/39 Hoang Hoa Tham, Hanoi

Culinary Evening – The Blue Hour

Culinary Evening – The Blue Hour.
Culinary Evening – The Blue Hour.
The term “blue hour” refers to the transition from day to night, when the sun has just set and the darkness is already arriving. It is the moment when sunset and moon rise merge and the sky shines in a rich blue of light and dark.
The blue hour stands for the unity of diversity, for a symbiotic cooperation of two opposites.
For many, the Blue Hour primarily means the end of a working day. Leisure time begins. We meet friends or family, exchange ideas and go out to eat and drink. How and what we eat is essential to our cultural identity. Eating together means living together, caring and laughing together.
In collaboration with the German master chef Steffen Burkhardt and the chef of the Café Goethe, Mrs. Thuy Linh, the Goethe-Institut offers you a culinary journey of tastes. The chefs form a symbiosis of the respective country cuisine and thus create a Vietnamese-German fusion menu.
Time: Saturday November 24 at 6:00 pm
Venue: Goethe-Institut Hanoi, 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh, Hanoi
