Acknowledging the meanings and importance of ponds and lakes in moderating climate and creating a green, beautiful and clean environment, residents in villages and communes in Thanh Tri district have joined hands, contributing to revitalize dozens of ponds.
Spread the campaign
On our visit to village 3, An My commune, Thanh Tri district, we were impressed with the atmosphere of Tra pond. The pond is about tens of thousand square meters and used to be called “dead lagoon” due to its severe pollution. No living organisms could survive in this body water. Along with that, the foul smell seriously affected the surrounding environment. However, since 2016, residents here have discussed and contributed efforts and money to create a completely new look for the pond. Tra pond has been dredged and surrounded with embankment, flower basins, roads, drainage system and trees. Dozens of households in the village also arrange many stone chairs around the lake so that people can rest whenever walking around the lake.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyet, Head of the Women’s Union of Village 3 (Yen My Commune), said that after the locals promoted the campaign through the loudspeaker system, residents automatically contributed efforts and money to recreate the environment. Who have more contribute more, who have less contribute less. Those who do not have money contribute more efforts to open, dredge and renovate Tra pond. Thanks to that, the word “dead lagoon” has disappeared. Tra pond is now the playground of many people in the village.
Many people in other villages and communes in Thanh Tri district also enthusiastically responded to the movement to clean the ponds and beautify the local environment. So far, 14 ponds and lakes in 10 communes have been dredged. Embankments, lake walkways and flower decorations are also constructed around the lakes.
Duplicate good model
Secretary of the Thanh Tri Party Committee Tran Van Khuong said, in order to specify objectives, directions and tasks related to environmental protection in developing new country side, the municipal party committee has issued Resolution NO. 07/NQ/HU and plan No. 141/KH-UBND. Accordingly, as of 2016, in addition to cleaning ponds, Thanh Tri district has encouraged citizens in planting flowers in streets. In total, Thanh Tri ward has a total of 9 “flower streets”, making the local areas more beautiful. Moreover, Thanh Tri encourages citizens to clean up the streets in every weekend, in turn contributing to the development of living environment in this rural area.
During the implementation of program No.02-CTr/TU of Hanoi Party Committee on “Agriculture development, building new country side and improve citizens’ living environment” at Thanh Tri district, Vice Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang highly regarded the efficiency of Thanh Tri district’s effort in building new country side. The result of environmental protection activities, including cleaning ponds and developing flower streets have been successful thanks to the support and agreement from the local residents. Impressed by the green lakes and beautiful streets, Mrs. Hang suggested the District continue to research and duplicate the good model to other districts and wards in Hanoi. The Vice Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee also delighted at hearing that Thanh Tri district is acknowledged as new country side in 2017. However, the district need to be continue its good effort in seeking the citizens’ support, in turn maintaining and keeping up with the good results obtained.
