Rock performance in Hanoi to boost Vietnam-Japan cultural exchange

The Hanoi Times — After a decade-long hiatus, the celebrated Japanese rock band Bati-Holic is set to return to Vietnam, offering an electrifying performance that promises to bridge the rich cultural landscapes of Japan and Vietnam through the universal language of music.

The performance marks the band’s highly anticipated return to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, where they will perform live for the first time in 10 years.

The renowned band, based in Kyoto, Japan, will take the stage at the Youth Theater in Hanoi on March 22 at 7:30PM and at the Ben Thanh Theater in Ho Chi Minh City on March 26.

Their performances, under the auspices of the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, are designed to provide a truly unique musical experience. With a vibrant mix of traditional and contemporary elements, Bati-Holic's performance will blend the thunderous beats of taiko drums, the resonant tones of the three-string shamisen guitar, and powerful vocals that capture the essence of both modern Japanese rock and traditional Japanese instrumentation.

Bati-Holic, whose name reflects the energy of a "fever" or "ecstasy," is a band that brings a fusion of different musical styles, blending elements of rock, traditional Japanese instruments, and groove music to create something unique. Over the past two decades, they have performed in more than 25 cities in eight countries, earning a devoted worldwide following. Their performances are known for their high-energy atmosphere, intense live presence, and passion that transcends cultural boundaries.

For Vietnamese fans who experienced their performances at the Hue Festival in Hanoi and the central province of Thanh Hoa a decade ago, this return to Vietnam isn't just a concert but a celebration of shared cultural experiences. Many will reminisce about the vibrant energy the band brought to the stage, an electrifying fusion of Japan's musical heritage with a modern twist, creating a dynamic performance that left an indelible mark on the audience.

Bati-Holic's distinctive sound is heavily influenced by Kyoto's deep cultural and artistic traditions. The band's music is rooted in the essence of Japan's traditional instruments, particularly the taiko drum (wa-daiko) and the fue (bamboo flute), which are integral to their live performances. But Bati-Holic is more than just a traditional performance group; their music explores new sonic territories, blending rock rhythms with folk sounds to create a soundscape that is both fresh and rooted in Japan's rich musical history.

What makes Bati-Holic's music special is how they seamlessly integrate Japan's ancient rhythms and melodies with a modern sensibility, appealing to audiences across generations, cultures, and nationalities. Their tagline, "Nippon, in the groove," embodies their philosophy of creating a cultural experience that is both deeply Japanese and universally accessible.

More than just a typical musical performance, Bati-Holic's upcoming concerts are considered an invitation to experience the vibrant energy of Japanese rock. According to the organizers, this is a rare opportunity to witness the unique fusion of traditional Japanese instruments with contemporary rock elements, offering an unforgettable cultural and musical journey.

Performances are open to the public, and tickets are free with advance registration. To secure tickets, visit the registration link here .
