The northern mountainous town of Sa Pa in Lao Cai province received around 30,000 holiday-makers during the New Year holiday, soaring 45 percent compared to the same period last year.

Despite drizzle and foggy weather, tourists flocked to the town to attend art and sporting activities to celebrate the New Year.
On January 2, a 47.5 km bicycle race was held in the town, aiming to promote physical exercise and expand exchanges with international friends in the fields of culture and sport.
On the occasion, the provincial Information and Tourism Promotion Centre coordinated with the Sa Pa Tourism Association and travel companies to hold a special art programme to welcome the first visitors to the town in the year.
