Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi paid visit to the US
At the invitation of the US State Department, member of the Politburo, Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi, Head of the delegation of the National Assembly in Hanoi, visited the US since Juy 21.
In Washington DC, Secretary Nghi had meeting with Senior Advisor of Foreign Minister John Kerry, Mr. Thomas Shannon; Deputy National Security Advisor Tony Blinken charge of foreign affairs; Permanent Chairman Patrick Leahy and Senate Senator John McCain.
Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee also had discussions with Mr. Kenneth Wollack, President of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and Mr. Mark Green, President of the International Republican Institute (IRI). On behalf of Secretary of State John Kerry, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman has welcomed transfered of greetings and exchanged with Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Secretary Pham Quang Nghi.
In meetings with US officials, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi has informed about the situation in Vietnam, foreign policy for independence, self-localizing, diversification of Vietnam; affirmed that Party and State of Vietnam values and constantly promotes cooperative relations with the United States in the framework of a comprehensive partnership in the spirit of the Joint Declaration in July 2013 between President Truong Tan Sang and President Barack Obama.
Mr. Pham Quang Nghi stressed the determination of the two countries in closing past, opening future; emphasized significance and importance of strengthening high-level exchange of visits, especially in 2015 - the 20th anniversary of the normalization in bilateral relations; appreciated achievements in the implementation of the Joint Declaration in the last year; stressed the two sides should actively together to develop specific measures to promote bilateral relations towards more substantive and more efficient, especially in the fields of economy, trade and investment.
Mr. Nghi proposed the US to facilitate further market for Vietnamese goods, limit the trade barriers and encourage American businesses to invest in Vietnam; early recognized market economy status of Vietnam; strengthen cooperation in the fields of education and training; support Vietnam to solve the aftermath of war, including environmental cleanup, supporting victims of Agent Orange, searching of the two sides’ missing soldiers, demining.
Mr. Pham Quang Nghi affirmed that Vietnam welcomes US to enhance cooperation with the Asia-Pacific region for peace, stability and prosperity of the region.
Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi welcomed parliamentarians' contribution to the development of Vietnam-US relations; strengthening dialogue mechanisms between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the US Congress to encourage relationships between localities of the two countries.
Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi openly exchanged around concerns of US members about the situation of democracy and human rights in Vietnam.
In a meeting with the Chairman of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Republican Institute (IRI), Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi highlighted the significance of the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries in accordance with enshrined Vietnam-America, in which the two countries pledged to respect the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions of each other and encourage dialogue and exchange among Party agencies of the two countries.
In this regard, he welcomed the initial steps to explore, investigate the possibility of exchange between the Communist Party of Vietnam with the main parties involved in the US in the near future.
Leaders of the US State Department expressed esteem and mental delighted to welcome Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi in the first visit, emphasizing that they always appreciate Vietnam’s role in joining to resolve regional and international issues as well as in Vietnam-US relations; appreciate the substantial progress achieved and powerful development opportunity in the near future.
As a country with rights and responsibilities, the United States continues to respect Asia-Pacific region in overall strategy of the United States, click the determination in the negotiation process in order to complete Association of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) in 2014 and affirmed US support for Vietnam to enhance technical capacity and flexibility in implementation roadmap commitments.
The US Senate leaders expressed intimate feelings with the country and people of Vietnam, said that the US respects leading role of Vietnam in land area issues, Congress continues to support governments to promote stronger relations with Vietnam.
During these meetings, the United States expressed concern about the recent tensions in the East Sea, especially China’s drill platform of Haiyang Shiyou-981 in the exclusive economic zone and Vietnam's continental shelf; the US affirms interest and has an interest in maintaining peace and stability in the region, including freedom and safety, maritime security in the East Sea; appreciates the peaceful struggling measures that Vietnam has done recently, contributing to maintain an environment of peace and stability; prevents the risk of tension, confrontation and conflict.
Nghi is scheduled to leave Washington DC on July 23 (local time) for New York, continuing his working visit to the US.
