The Daegu Gyeongbuk Handcraft Cooperative, the Korea Fine Arts Association in Gyeongsangbuk-do, the Korea Fine Arts Association in Gyeongju, Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association, the Korea Institute of Min-Hwa Research, the Institute of Min-Hwa Gyeongju are cooperating in organizing the event. The exhibition at the HCM City Fine Arts Museum will run until December 3.
It is part of the Ho Chi Minh City - Gyeongju World Culture Expo 2017, co-hosted by Ho Chi Minh City and Gyeongju city in South Korea’s Gyeongsangbuk-do province from November 11 to December 3. The expo features more than 30 programmes on art performances, exhibitions, movie screenings, and trade promotion activities.
On November 12, Ho Chi Minh City’s Nguyen Hue pedestrian street was emblazoned with a kaleidoscope of cultures of Gyeongju city, South Korea. The event was held as part of the activities within the Ho Chi Minh City–Gyeongju World Culture Festival 2017, taking place in the southern hub from November 11 to December 3.
According to Le Thanh Liem, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Vietnam hosted numerous important events in November, including the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week and the Ho Chi Minh City – Gyeongju World Culture Festival, showing Vietnam’s role in the international community. The events are expected to lure more foreign tourists to Vietnam, he said.
As Vietnam and South Korea are celebrating the 25th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties this year, relations between Ho Chi Minh City and South Korea’s localities have received more attention, Liem noted.
He believed that the festive activities will help promote cultural and economic exchanges between the two countries while enhancing mutual understanding between their people.
According to Choi Yangsik, Mayor of Gyeongju, the dynamic Ho Chi Minh City and Gyeongju have a range of similarities which comprise the maintenance of Confucianism tradition, cultural respect, and patriotism. He hoped that the brilliant performances will bring Gyeongju city’s cultural features closer to Vietnamese people.
Gyeongju was the capital of the 1,000 year-long Silla dynasty and was the core city of the world’s ancient Silk Road. The city is also renowned for numerous cultural and historic heritage, stunning natural landscapes and colourful festivals which attract a large pool of visitors every year.
