The young Spanish girl Victoria is new to the German capital and likes to dance the night away. After a night in the club she gets to know Sonne and his three friends. First, it appears that the party simply goes on with a little flirt. But soon it turns out that the coming night is going to be a lot more dramatic, because Sonne and his friend need to clear debts… Victoria becomes an accomplice in a bank robbery… A thrilling escape through a Berlin night that changes everything.
The extremely short, 12-page script consisted only of scene descriptions that were improvised by the actors on camera. The adrenaline-fuelled and emotionally charged film was also shot in just one camera setting, without any cuts, thus allowing the viewers to follow the story in real time.
Sebastian Schipper, born in Hannover in 1968, studied drama at the Otto Falckenberg school in Munich. Afterwards he was member of the ensemble at the Münchner Kammerspiele for two years. As an actor he played in films like The English Patient and Run Lola Run amongst others. His debut in direction Absolute Giganten (1999) was awarded by the German Film Award and his films A Friend of Mine (2004) and Sometime in August (2008) have been presented at the Berlinale.
Language: German with English and Vietnamese subtitles
“Victoria” will be screened on Wed 12 Apr 2017, 7 pm at Goethe-Institut Hanoi, 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh, Hanoi and Salon Van hoa Ca Phe Thu Bay, 1st floor, 19B Pham Ngoc Thach, Dist 3, HCMC.
