State President Truong Tan Sang has asked the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to enhance its role in coordinating support activities in Vietnam.
He applauded the IFRC’s support and assistance for Vietnam while affirming the Vietnamese Party and State’s willingness to work hand in hand with international humanitarian organizations to improve their operational efficiency in the country.
The State leader proposed the IFRC help the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) with technical and financial assistance, project management and better capability to cope with natural disasters and risk control.
The IFRC official spoke highly of the VRCS’s movements and initiatives which are seen as lessons of experience for other regional countries.
Bekele Geleta said he hopes the Vietnamese State will provide greater support for the federation’s activities and the VRCS will bring into full play what it has achieved to become actively involved in the global humanitarian network.
