Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam stated Vietnam welcomes international investors and scientists to join its innovative efforts, making creative startup a practical movement. A legal framework coupled with support from the Government and succeeded pioneers are key to the startup development, he added.

With larger scale compared to last year’s edition, the Techfest Vietnam 2017 was estimated to attract up to 4,500 visitors, 200 startups, and 130 investors and funds.
It featured six potential arenas for startup-related activities – agriculture, education, tourism – food services, health, new technologies, and start-up support communities.
With young population, Vietnam is working towards becoming a start-up nation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). The Government targets to have one million effective enterprises by 2020.
The Techfest Vietnam 2017 aims to promote start-up businesses. The event also looks to promote the start-up ecosystem in Vietnam and link domestic and international start-ups via luring investment for start-up firms, providing policy consultancy on innovation, honouring start-ups and organisations for active contributions to the start-up community.
Director of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Department of Market Development and Science and Technology Enterprise Pham Hong Quat said the Techfest 2017 expects to highlight Vietnam as a potential destination for start-up development.
It also aims to connect nationwide innovation systems from cities, provinces, ministries, departments and associations to create a start-up ecosystem linking with the region and beyond, he added.

Techfest 2017 attracts about 200 start-ups and hundreds of Vietnamese and foreign investors, venture capital funds, big enterprises and start-up supporting organisations. It also hopes to welcome more than 4,000 visitors.
It features six technological areas divided into six villages, namely Agritech Village, Edtech Village, Medtech Village, Tourism and F&B Village, Frontier and Fintech Village, and Emerging Tech Village, along with Community Village.
With diverse activities such as workshops and innovative idea competitions, the villages will be attractive destinations for start-ups, investors and supporting organisations, according to organisers. A website is also launched at this year’s event with a view to connecting policy makers, ministries, sectors, localities, start-up incubators and start-up businesses.
