The traffic safety situation in the whole country 2019 Tet holiday has been improved in all three criteria compared to the 2018 Tet holiday.
The Ministry of Public Security reported that in nine days of the Tet holiday, 276 road accidents claimed 183 lives and injured 241 others.
The National Traffic Safety Committee said that on February 10 (the 6th day of the Lunar New Year), there were 28 road traffic accidents nationwide, killing 22 people and injured 19 others. Two railway incidents took two lives, while no case serious accident was recorded on the waterway.
Compared to the same period last year, the number of road isaccidents is 46 cases less, killing fewer people (60 deaths) and the number of injuries also decreased with 31 injuries. Every day during this year Tet, an average of 20 people dieds on roads.
According to the Health Ministry’s Medical Services Administration nationwide, from 7:00 am on February 2 to 7:00 pm on February 10, nearly 46,000 emergency cases underwent health check-ups and first aid due to traffic accidents. Of which, about 17,000 cases were hospitalized for a long time.
According to statistics from the Traffic Police Department, during the nine-day holiday, enforcement forces handled more than 21,300 cases of violations, issued administrative penalties of over VND12.2 billion (US$524,600), temporarily seizedy seizure of nearly 4,000 vehicles and requisitioning 400 driving licenses.
Through the hotline, the National Traffic Safety Committee received 160 calls and messages reporting traffic situation, less than the same period in 2018.
Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Khuat Viet Hung said that the traffic safety situation in the whole country has been maintained stable, the average daily accident improved in terms of all three criteria compared to the 2018 Tet holiday.
Notably, on February 8 (the 4th day of Tet), a particularly serious accident occurred in central Thanh Hoa province when a passenger car hit a coach and a seven-seater van, causing three deaths and five injuries, Hung stressed.
