The Capital to implement project to reduce traffic jam and environmental pollution

The Hanoi People’s Committee issues Decision 5953/QD-UBND dated August 24, approving project on increasing the management of road vehicles in order to reduce traffic jam and environmental pollution in Ha Noi in the 2017-2020 period, vision to 2030.

The project is aiming to:

Increase the management of road vehicle to reduce traffic jam and environmental pollution, satisfy transport demand and improve living quality of the people; comprehensively develop public transport system, so that public transport will make up 30-35% of the market in urban areas and 15% in satellite towns by 2020, and 50-55% in urban areas and 40% in satellite towns by 2030;

 



Develop transport infrastructure network comprehensively in accordance with other planning schemes, especially transport planning approved by the Prime Minister; by 2030, land for transport will account for 20-26% of construction land in urban areas, 18-23% of land in satellite towns, and 16-20% of land in towns; land area for static traffic will make up 3-4%.

In order to meet aforementioned targets, the city will take comprehensive measures as follows: managing quality and quantity of vehicles; managing the scope of operation of the vehicles; developing and increasing efficiency of public passenger transport service; applying information technology in state management, thus enhancing state management in the field of transport.

 



The measures will be carried out in three periods:

Period 1 (2017 - 2018): taking measures to manage vehicles and increase state management of transport;

Period 2 (2017 - 2020): taking measures to manage the quality and quantity of vehicles, develop public passenger transport service and reduce private vehicles on crowded streets;

Period 3 (2017 - 2030): gradually limiting the use of motorbikes in certain area and time, thus preparing conditions to stop motorbikes in urban districts in 2030.
