Three Vietnamese universities break into THE’s Asia University Rankings 2021
Vietnam National University in Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi) has been listed in the Times Higher Education (THE)’s Asia University Rankings for a second year running.
Three Vietnamese universities have been named in THE’s Asia University Rankings 2021, which has been recently released.
They are the Vietnam National University in Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi), the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), and the Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM).

VNU-Hanoi is in the group of 251-300, HUST is placed between 351-400, and VNU-HCM is listed in the 401+ group.
This is the second time VNU-Hanoi has been ranked first among Vietnamese higher education institutions that enter THE’s Asia University Rankings.
The rankings assessed 551 institutions from 30 Asian countries and territories this year. In 2020, the number of institutions was 500.
Universities were ranked by performance in five areas: Teaching (30%), Research (30%), Citations (30%), Income from knowledge and technology transfer (7.5%), and International outlook (7.5%).
Among the three above-mentioned, VNU-Hanoi achieved the highest score in the areas of teaching, research, citations, and international outlook. Meanwhile, VNU-HCM saw their highest score in Income from knowledge and technology transfer.
The top five universities in THE’s Asia University Rankings 2021 include Tsinghua University (China), Peking University (China), National University of Singapore, University of Technology Nanyang (Singapore) and University of Hong Kong.
THE is one of the world's most reputable and influential independent education rankings, alongside that of QS and Shanghai Jiaotong University (China).
THE rates universities around the world based on the core mission of a university and uses standard metrics to enable comprehensive and fair comparisons.
