Two Vietnamese domestic routes among world’s busiest in July
The ranking highlights both cities' appeal as leading tourist destinations and underscores Hanoi’s key role in linking major economic regions.
THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam’s aviation sector saw two domestic routes rank among the top 10 busiest in the world this July, according to the latest report by the Official Airline Guide (OAG) - a leading global aviation analytics provider.
The Hanoi–Ho Chi Minh City (HAN–SGN) route held steady at 3rd place on the global list, despite a slight 1% drop in seat capacity compared to July 2024.
It remains the backbone of Vietnam’s domestic air network, playing a critical role in driving trade, tourism, and economic connectivity between the nation’s two largest cities.
Only two routes surpassed it in passenger volume: Jeju–Seoul (GMP) in South Korea and Sapporo–Tokyo (HND) in Japan.

Meanwhile, the Danang–Hanoi (DAD–HAN) route climbed to 8th place, marking a breakthrough in passenger demand.
Seat capacity on this route rose by 10% year-on-year, one of the highest increases in the global top 10, second only to Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah–Riyadh route, which grew by 16%.
The surge underscores Danang’s strong appeal as a leading tourist destination, renowned for its pristine beaches, modern infrastructure, and warm hospitality.
It also reaffirms Hanoi’s crucial role as a transport and economic hub, linking the capital with dynamic economic zones across central Vietnam.
In the first half of 2025, the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi handled 16.5 million passengers and over 100,000 flights.
Notably, the airport’s Terminal T2 served more than 7 million international travelers, surpassing its designed annual capacity of 10 million passengers. The terminal is currently undergoing expansion to raise its capacity to 15 million per year.
