Unity key for Hanoi’s development efforts: Party Chief

The General Secretary urged Hanoi’s Party committees and government to prioritize "placing people at the center of all policies," and strive for "the happiness and prosperity of the people".

The strength of national unity has always been one of the most powerful and vital forces enabling the Party, the people, and the military to overcome all difficulties and challenges, ensuring the success of Vietnam’s renewal and development. This unity is especially crucial for building a peaceful, cultured, civilized, and modern capital city.

General Secretary To Lam stressed this view when he joined residents of Quan Thanh Ward in Ba Dinh District, to celebrate the National Great Unity Festival on November 12, marking the 94th anniversary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s founding (November 18, 1930 – November 18, 2024).

A report on the state of national solidarity and the results of public campaigns and patriotic movements in 2024 in Quan Thanh Ward highlighted that, in recent years, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quan Thanh Ward has actively innovated its content and working methods to strengthen the unity of the people.

On the principle of "the people as the foundation," it relies on the public to promote ownership, responsibility, creativity, and all public resources, building social consensus under the motto "the Party speaks, the people trust; the Front and organizations mobilize, the people follow; the government acts, the people support."

The ward’s Fatherland Front Committee has encouraged people from all walks of life to participate in patriotic movements and  campaigns, and to actively engage in building and protecting the Party and government, making a significant contributions to economic, cultural, social, and defense-security objectives, and helping to maintain Quan Thanh ward as a strategic area of the capital.

The Fatherland Front's activities have seen many innovations, with active and exemplary associations. Quan Thanh has been one of the outstanding units of Ba Dinh District and Hanoi, implementing a model of urban discipline and culture combined with exemplary public security and safety. It is also a prominent unit in building exemplary civic engagement models, with over 20 notable initiatives, including "Unified, harmonious, secure, safe, prosperous residential areas," the "Three-have, three-know family model in fire prevention," and "National Unity Houses."

In 2024, 98.5% of households were rated as cultural families, and all eight residential units achieved cultural status. These models have contributed significantly to fulfilling political duties and central, city, and district objectives at the grassroots level.

Expressing his delight at attending the National Great Unity Festival for the residents of Quan Thanh Ward, General Secretary To Lam congratulated and appreciated the achievements and efforts of the Party Committee, the government, the military, and the people of Hanoi in general, and Ba Dinh District and Quan Thanh Ward in particular in recent years.

He emphasized that the strength of national solidarity has always been one of the most critical and powerful forces, enabling the Party, the people, and the army to overcome all difficulties and challenges and ensure the success of national renewal and development, particularly the building of a peaceful, cultured, civilized, and modern capital.

“Our country has accumulated the necessary conditions and is facing a historic opportunity to enter a new era of national advancement,” he said.

To achieve this, the General Secretary urged Party committees and governments at all levels in Hanoi to maintain a deep understanding of the principle of "placing the people at the center and as the main actors of all policies," with "the happiness and prosperity of the people as the ultimate goal,"  to improve people’s material and spiritual lives and ensure that all citizens benefit from the fruits of renewal and development.

The General Secretary noted that the Politburo has recently issued regulations and decisions to reorganize the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption, Wastefulness, and Negativity, adding waste prevention as a new task.

He called on localities, including Hanoi, to make significant progress in waste prevention.

“Every citizen should practice frugality, fight waste, actively participate in monitoring the implementation of these practices, and promptly report any wasteful behavior to the relevant authorities,” Lam continued.

The General Secretary expressed his wish that residents would continue to build on their proud revolutionary tradition, preserve their cultural heritage, and strengthen national solidarity by working alongside local Party committees and governments to build Quan Thanh Ward, Ba Dinh District, and the entire city of Hanoi into prosperous, civilized, and modern areas, worthy of Ba Dinh's distinguished history as the cultural, peaceful district of the capital city.
