Vietnam Airlines launches direct route between Hanoi, Bengaluru

Vietnam Airlines has opened its direct route connecting Hanoi and Bengaluru, and expanded its network to four major cities in India.

THE HANOI TIMES — The national carrier Vietnam Airlines has launched a direct flight route connecting Hanoi with Bengaluru, India’s leading technology hub locating to the south of the country.

The new route will operate with four round trips per week.

The inaugural flight VN983, operated by an Airbus A321 carrying more than 130 passengers, departed from Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport at 7.00 pm on May 1, and landed at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru at 10.00 pm (local time).

The return flight, VN982, departed Bengaluru at 11.30 pm with more than 160 passengers, and landed in Hanoi at 5.25 am on May 2.

Ceremonies were also held at both Noi Bai and Bengaluru airports to celebrate the new route, including ribbon-cutting events and flower presentations to crew members and the first passengers on the new flights.

India is currently one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world, with a population of more than 1.4 billion and a rapidly expanding middle class, said Dang Anh Tuan, Deputy CEO of Vietnam Airlines.

The airline’s expanded network highlights its role in connecting Vietnam with South Asia, he said.

“This also reflects our long-standing commitment to the vision of ‘Together we fly across the homeland’, a mission we have pursued for over 30 years,” Tuan said.

Starting May 7, Vietnam Airlines will also launch direct flights between Hanoi and Hyderabad, using Airbus A321 aircraft. This new route will offer three round trips per week.

With the addition of these two new routes, Vietnam Airlines now connects Vietnam to four major Indian cities, namely New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

This growing flight network meets increasing travel demand and supports business, tourism, and bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and India.

Since launching its flights to India, Vietnam Airlines has completed over 3,200 flights, serving more than 511,700 passengers.

In 2024 alone, Vietnam welcomed over 500,000 visitors from India, making the South Asian country one of the top ten tourism markets for Vietnam.

These numbers underline the strong growth potential of the Indian market, especially in tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.
