Vietnam backs ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community’s priorities: official

Vietnam supports the priorities and initiatives of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) in Laos `s ASEAN 2016 Chairmanship year, said Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Doan Mau Diep.

In his speech at the ASCC’s 15th meeting, which took place in Laos’s Luang Prabang province on June 4, the Vietnamese official highlighted the significance of documents adopted to submit to ASEAN leaders for approval in the 28th ASEAN Summit, especially t he Vientiane Declaration on the Transition from Informal Employment to Formal Employment towards Decent Work Promotion in ASEAN.

He stressed the need to enhance cooperation within ASEAN and between the group and its partners, to solve issues related to employment and disaster adaptation.
Vietnam highly values efforts made by s enior officials in charge of culture and society from ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Secretariat in promoting the community’s activities, particularly fostering the implementation of the ASCC Master Plan to 2025, Diep said.
The Vietnamese Government approved a plan to realise targets set by the ASCC to 2015, he revealed, stressing that this will contribute to promoting the involvement of relevant parties in the community.
At the meeting, participants praised Laos’ priorities, especially the country’s effort to promote the completion of the ASCC’s documents to submit to ASEAN leaders for approval in the 28 th ASEAN Summit
They also considered the implementation of the ASCC Master Plan to 2025 and relevant issues.
Concluding the event, a joint statement was issued, agreeing on contents of the meeting, the progress of document building, and the implementation of the ASCC Master Plan from 2015.
