Vietnam claims two gold medals at International Physics Olympiad 2018

Vietnamese team came eighth at the contest with two golds, two silvers and one bronze.

The two gold medals were awarded to Nguyen Ngoc Long (Lam Son High School for the Gifted, Thanh Hoa Province) and Tran Duc Huy (Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi), announced the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) today.

At the Asian Physics Olympiad held in Vietnam in May, both Huy and Long won gold medals.
Besides, two silver medals went to Nguyen Xuan Tan (Natural Science High School for the Gifted, under Hanoi National University) and Trinh Duy Hieu (Bang Giang High School for the Gifted, Bac Giang Province).
Nguyen Van Thanh Loi, the last medalist of the Vietnamese team, from Quang Trung High School for the Gifted, Binh Phuoc Province won a bronze.
Given these achievements, Vietnam was among the top ten countries claiming at least two gold medals and ranked eighth among 86 countries and terrorists in the contest.   
China and India lead the contest with five gold medals each, followed by Russia, South Korea, Tawain and Singapore with four gold medals each. The US claimed three gold medals while Vietnam and Israel both gained two golds. 
The 49th International Physics Olympiad 2018 was held in Portugal during July 21 - 29.
