Vietnam hands over medical materials to aid Cambodia’s fight against Covid-19

This is the third assistance in 2021 that Vietnam has given to Cambodia in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Vietnam Border High Command on May 11 handed over a package of medical materials to its counterpart in neighboring country of Cambodia where suffers the widespread Covid-19 pandemic.

The donation includes 250,000 masks and 15,000 Covid-19 protective gears for the Cambodia Border High Command at Moc Bai International Border Gate in Vietnam’s southern province of Tay Ninh.

At the handover ceremony, Colonel Le Hong Vuong, commander of the Border Guard in Tay Ninh province emphasized that Vietnam and Cambodia have close relations and a tradition of supporting each other in difficulties.

"Although the gift is not of high value and far from meeting the actual needs of the pandemic prevention in Cambodia, I believe it is meaningful at this difficult time of the ravaging pandemic," Vuong said.

He stressed that the assistance shows the solidarity and friendship between the Vietnamese border guard force and the border management and protection force of Cambodia, helping ease difficulties of Cambodia in pandemic prevention and control.

Vuong encouraged overseas Vietnamese in Cambodia to coordinate with the host country to soon overcome the pandemic. He also thanked the Cambodian government for its attention to the Vietnamese community in the country.

Currently, the two countries’ border protection forces maintain a regular coordination in combating illegal immigrants to curb the coronavirus spread along the shared border.

This is the third assistance in 2021 that Vietnam has given to Cambodia in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

In early April, the Vietnamese government donated US$200,000 to Cambodia to help this country fight the novel coronavirus.

Then, in late April, Vietnam delivered 800 ventilators, two million medical facemasks, 300,000 N95 masks, and other medical equipment to Cambodia.

Besides, Vietnam sent health expertise to support Cambodia in the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
