Vietnam International Travel Mart 2019 opens in Hanoi

More than 18,000 tour packages and 40,000 air tickets with special discounts will be offered at the 2019 Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM).

The 2019 VITM themed “Green Tourism” opened on March 27 at the Friendship Palace in downtown Hanoi, providing a space for tour operators to showcase their best offers.

The annual event, the largest of its kind in the country, attracted over 710 travel companies to showcase their products at 500 booths, tourism authorities from 47 provinces and cities of Vietnam and 25 countries and territories. Notably, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Peru joined the event for the first time.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien said that Vietnam expects to welcome at least 18 million foreign visitors and serve over 85 million domestic tourists, earning over VND700 trillion (US$30 million) in revenue in 2019.
Vietnam's tourism sector should fully tap modern technology and local advantages to meet visitors’ demands, thus turning Vietnam into an attractive destination in the region, Minister Thien added.
More than 18,000 tour packages and 40,000 air tickets with special discounts will be offered at the 2019 VITM.
According to Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA) Vu The Binh, 2019 is the seventh year the VITA has held the VITM.
The event is expected to draw up to 85,000 visitors. Major activities will include seminars on green tourism, Vietnam's outbound tourism, Vietnam's tourism and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, conferences, introduction of destinations, and signing ceremonies for several cooperation deals.
One of the highlights of the 2019 VITM is the forum themed “Green Tourism” to be held for the first time. During the forum, delegates will discuss the development of ecotourism, environmental protection and responses to climate change.
In addition, a forum under the theme “Vietnam’s outbound tourism – opportunities and challenges” will discuss hot topics in the context the number of Vietnamese travelling to foreign countries increasing by 15 - 20% annually.
