Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) Hanoi 2016, themed “Vietnam – The paradise of sea and island tourism” opened at the Hanoi Daewoo Hotel on April 13.
Attending the opening ceremony were Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, and Head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Van Tuan.
Speaking at the event, Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien said that the Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) Hanoi has become an annual event of the tourism sector, a professional forum for its businesses to exchange and cooperate.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association (VTA) Vu The Binh said VITM Hanoi 2016, which will take place at the Vietnam Expo Center in Hanoi from April 14-17, will have 502 booths.
This year’s event is expected to draw the participation of 3,000 enterprises and approximately 62,000 visitors.
Some 15,000 tours with a 20-30 percent discount and 20,000 cheap airline tickets will be sold at the event, according to the VITM organising board.
VITM Hanoi 2016 aims to attract more international tourists to Vietnam, while contributing to increase the number of domestic visitors to sea and island areas.
During the fair, the key tourist destinations that will be highlighted are Hanoi, the Northwest Region and the Central Highlands – South Central Region.
This year's fair will also include other special activities such as conferences, seminars, press conferences on professional services and tourism promotion.
VITM Hanoi 2016 is scheduled to promote three sectors of tourism, including: Inbound, Domestic & Outbound.
The event will make a chance for the participated travel agencies to meet, discuss and sign cooperation contracts.
At present, Vietnam has become an emerging outbound market.
More than 5 million Vietnamese travel overseas annually, reaching a growth rate of 15%. Vietnam has been considered to be a new source market for many countries.
Addressing the event, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung said the annual VITM Hanoi has become the country's outstanding tourism event, significantly contributing to develop Hanoi city as an attractive destination.
At the opening ceremony, the organising board presented the "Vietnam’s most attractive destinations in 2015" Award for 5 categories including: The resorts, most attractive parks, most popular craft villages, most popular museums and beaches.
