The project aims to completely eliminate uneploded ordnance (UXO) on an area of 10,000ha in the two provinces which were hard hit during the Vietnam War. It will examine 16,632 hectares in the two provinces to define polluted areas for clearance. The cleared areas will be given to locals for production or to build public works.

According to the survey, the land contaminated with UXO occupies 40% of Binh Dinh’s total area and 28% of Quang Binh’s.

In these localities, there have also been many explosions, causing many deaths and injuries. Although the authorities and organizations have actively cleared, the amount of UXO remains relatively high.
