Vietnamese literature shined brightly in the spotlight at the opening of the 39th International Kolkata Book Fair in India, one of the world’s three largest international book fairs.
This year's Boi Mela (Kolkata Book Fair) runs from January 28-February 8 and writers and bibliophiles from all corners of India and the globe have descended on the city with approximately 1.5 million in attendance at the opening.
Speaking at the event, Vietnam Ambassador to India Ton Sinh Thanh said he hoped that Vietnamese books and literature would be introduced to readers through all the exchanges and events taking place at the fair.
On behalf of the nation, I would like to say that we are very happy that Vietnam can take part in the journey, he added.
The Vietnamese bookstalls are showcasing in excess of 150 books that have been translated into English. The books tell the story of late President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap, the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, and Vietnam-India relations.
In particular, several books on display have been translated into Hindi including collections of poems – Nhat Ky Trong Tu (Diary in Prison) and Tieu Su Ho Chi Minh (Biography of Ho Chi Minh).
