Vietnam expected to achieve prosperity: former German Vice Chancellor
Vietnam now has the opportunity to achieve prosperity and sustainability, said Philipp Roesler, former Vice Chancellor of Germany, at the Vietnam Global Leaders Forum 2024 in Paris on March 30. The German national of Vietnamese descent urged the government and people to remain united to manage external factors and drive national growth together.
Philipp served as Minister of Economics and Technology and Vice Chancellor of Germany in Angela Merkel's cabinet from 2011 to 2013.
First women's job fair held in Bac Ninh Province

The Women's Job Fair was held on March 31 to match job supply and demand in the northern province of Bac Ninh and neighboring provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Bac Giang, Hung Yen and Hai Duong. The event featured over 5,000 job vacancies from several large companies. Goertek Vina Technology and Dreamtech Vietnam are looking for 1,000 and 2,000 workers to manufacture electronic components.
Vietnam is one of the countries with the highest rates of female labor force in the world. This event aims to help create a more enabling environment for women to get employed and advance in their careers.
Vietnam is second in global shoe exports
Vietnam is the world's second-largest exporter of footwear. Its global market share is estimated at 10%. Vietnamese shoes are sold in 150 markets, including the US, EU, China, Japan and the UK.
In the first two months of the year, the export value of footwear reached more than 3.1 billion US dollars, an increase of 13.8% compared to the same period last year. Vietnam's biggest footwear buyer was the US, with an export turnover of US$1.1 billion, up 25% year on year.
Opening of Cat Ba Tourism in 2024
The opening of the tourism season in Cat Ba Island of Cat Hai District, Haiphong City in 2024 took place on March 31. The event commemorating the 69th anniversary of Hai Phong Liberation Day (May 13, 1955-1924) was in response to the Red Flamboyant Festival-Hai Phong 2024. It aims to promote and enhance the value of the Halong Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago World Heritage Site, recently inscribed by UNESCO.
Visitors to the festival participated in the Cat Hai District Hot Air Balloon Festival 2024 at the Cat Ba Tourism Center's Central Square, which included a lantern night with hot air balloons, sightseeing and taking photos with hot air balloon scenes.
South Korea-based Vietnamese community holds futsal tournament
The Vietnamese community in Siheung City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, hosted a futsal tournament on March 31, with 16 teams participating. The tournament is an annual sports event that celebrates the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26) and motivates Vietnamese people in Korea to strengthen their unity.
At the one-day sports event, Kwangju FC won the championship, while Storm FC and Dat To (Home Nation) FC finished second and third.
