Canadian naval ship visits Vietnam

The Royal Canadian Navy ship HMCS Montreal docked at Saigon Port on August 15 to begin its visit to Ho Chi Minh City.

HMCS Montréal's visit demonstrates Canada's strong commitment to its dynamic partnership with Vietnam and the Indo-Pacific region and cultivates good friendships and defense cooperation between the two countries.

Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange to be held in Danang

A variety of arts and performances, trade and tourism promotions will be held in the central city of Danang as part of a cultural exchange festival between Vietnam and South Korea on August 16-18.

The festival was held for the first time in 2022. In this third edition, the Honam Women's Nongak Troupe, South Korea's newest UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, will perform a traditional instrument and art on the opening night.

Thai princess supports schoolchildren in Quang Tri

Hanoi celebrates public security and national defence anniversaries

The Ministry of National Defense held a ceremony in Hanoi on August 15 to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the founding of the People's Public Security Forces (the Ministry of Public Security today) (August 19, 1945) and the 19th All-People's National Defense Day (August 19, 2005). The event celebrated the close cooperation between the People's Army and the Public Security Forces in safeguarding national security and was attended by senior Party and State leaders.

First regional thoracic surgery center established in Vietnam

The first regional thoracic surgery center will be established in Ho Chi Minh City through a partnership between FV Hospital and O2 Healthcare Group, a specialized lung center in Singapore.

The center will help improve the success rate of lung cancer treatment and provide treatment options for lung cancer and complex thoracic diseases at affordable prices for patients.

The Nguyen Dynasty Porcelain Museum in Hue opened an exhibition themed "Buddhist Imprints on Antiquities" on August 15, featuring nearly 200 artifacts from the 7th to 19th centuries. The collection includes intricately crafted Buddhist statues, ritual objects, and ceramics from Vietnam, Thailand, China, Japan, and Cambodia. The exhibition runs through March 15, 2025, and offers a unique glimpse into Buddhist cultural heritage.

Danang exceeds annual target with 2.5 million international tourists

The central beach city of Danang welcomed 2.5 million international tourists from January to July, exceeding its annual target and representing a 34.7% increase from 2023. The city's tourism revenue from accommodation and catering reached VND15.7 trillion (US$660 million), up 23.5% year-on-year. This growth will be driven by events such as "Enjoy Danang 2024" and expanded international marketing efforts.

Vietnamese students win full scholarships to UK

Five Vietnamese female students have won full STEM scholarships to study at top universities in the UK, selected from hundreds of applicants. The scholarships are part of the ASEAN-UK SAGE and British Council Women in STEM programs, which aim to address gender disparities in science and technology education. The students will pursue master's degrees in interdisciplinary biology, industrial engineering, innovation, environmental policy, and science communication.

Vietnamese students win medals at first IOAI 2024

Vietnamese students won one silver and three bronze medals at the first International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI 2024) held in Bulgaria between August 9 and 15. With these achievements, Vietnam ranked 6th in the medal tally.

The first IOAI attracted about 40 teams from more than 30 countries and territories worldwide.
