US envoy pays tribute to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong
US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken today will lead President Biden’s envoy to Vietnam to mourn the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. President Biden extended his condolences, highlighting Trong’s pivotal role in deepening Vietnam-US relations.
Measures proposed to promote Mekong cooperation with Japan and South Korea
Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet said at a meeting in Laos on July 26 that relevant parties need to develop transportation and logistics networks along the East-West Economic Corridor and the Southern Economic Corridor, improve digital resources, promote cooperation in cross-border water resources management, ensure food and energy security, and respond to climate change.
Vietnam to have a new type of market
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the new type of market, the community market model, is a trading place for buying, selling, and exchanging goods produced and grown by people licensed by relevant authorities.
There were nearly 8,320 wet markets nationwide by the end of 2023.

Czech Republic celebrates Vietnamese language preservation
Le Thi Thu Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, held the "Honoring Vietnamese Language" event in Prague and Brno on July 24-25 during an official visit to the Czech Republic. The event celebrated the Vietnamese language and honored those who preserve it. Duong Hoai Nam, Ambassador of Vietnam to the Czech Republic, noted that this was the first time the event was held in Europe, highlighting its importance for the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic. Hang presented medals and gifts to outstanding contributors and inaugurated Vietnamese bookcases during the event.
Vietnam to host Men's 10-Ball Pool World Championships
Vietnam will host the Men's 10-Ball Pool World Championship and three other international billiards tournaments in 2025. The tournaments will be co-organized by media company BOX Vietnam and Predator Group, a leading supplier of billiard accessories. The total prize money for these four tournaments will be US$500,000 in the first year, increasing to US$600,000 and US$700,000 in the next two years.
Pho and Nem Cuon served at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
Pho and nem cuon have been selected by the 2024 Olympic Organizing Committee to be included in the athletes' menu. Pho appears in all three of the athletes' main daily meals due to its high carbohydrate content, which helps to replenish a lot of energy. Meanwhile, the French host is using the word "nem" instead of "spring roll" to introduce the dish as Vietnamese.
Hanoi-Haiphong Expressway reports 23.8% revenue increase in H1 2024
The Hanoi-Haiphong Expressway generated revenue of approximately VND1.4 trillion (US$60.6 million) in the first half of 2024, up 23.8% on year. The expressway has seen a traffic volume of about 10.8 million vehicles since its inauguration, with an average daily traffic of 59,300 vehicles.
