Nearly 3.5-fold increase in Indian arrivals in Vietnam compared to pre-pandemic levels

According to the Mastercard Economics Institute's fifth annual travel report, the number of Indian travelers arriving in Vietnam jumped 248% in the first three months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2019 (the pre-pandemic period).
Two other popular destinations for Indians, the US, and Japan, saw a 59% and 53% increase in travelers from the South Asian nation, respectively.
Ho Chi Minh City, USAID commemorate 11-year partnership
The US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade have poured more than US$11 for the past 11 years to facilitate energy efficiency gains and develop and deploy new sources of renewable energy.
Other outcomes of the 11-year partnership include the development of the city's net-zero emissions strategy and implementation roadmap, the launch of its first-ever energy efficiency awards program, fundraising for clean energy developers and startups, and training for key local staff.
Workshop introduces root industry jobs, academic programs in Hanoi
On May 18, a workshop was held at the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering in Hanoi to introduce the educational programs of seven universities and colleges in the South Korean root industry. The event was an opportunity for Vietnamese students and parents to explore the feasibility of traveling to South Korea and seeking job and academic opportunities in the root industries.
The root industry is the industry that leads the business sector by utilizing process technologies such as molding, casting, welding, plastics processing, surface treatment, and heat treatment.
Mural made to promote Ho Chi Minh City's tourism
A 179-meter-long mural depicting Vietnam's landscapes was unveiled on May 18 in Ho Chi Minh City's District 1 to promote domestic tourism and contribute to making the city a green and healthy destination for travelers.
The unveiling of the mural was also part of a series of activities held by the local government to celebrate the 134th anniversary of the birth of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2024).
Netflix Vietnam removes unlicensed games as requested by authorities
The US-based video streaming platform Netflix has removed all 90 games from its mobile application available in Vietnam, local media reported. The action, taken on May 18, is in response to an April 10 request from Vietnamese authorities that Netflix remove unlicensed games from the App Store and Google Play Store.
Netflix did not comment on the action.
Vietnam wins second prize at international science and engineering contest
Vietnamese high school students won second place in the Systematic Software category at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair 2024 (Regeneron ISEF 2024), held May 11-17 in Los Angeles, USA. The two students are from Le Hong Phong High School in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Regeneron ISEF 2024 competition attracted nearly 1,700 students from 67 countries with nearly 1,400 science projects, including more than 1,100 individual projects.
