HCMC considers building subway to Can Gio Port

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested Ho Chi Minh City to study the construction of a subway to Can Gio to protect the Can Gio mangrove forest.

Chinh was speaking at a conference on the Can Gio International Transshipment Port project in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) on November 26, in which he emphasized the need to raise the competitiveness of Can Gio Port, which is a key element of Vietnam's seaport master plan for 2021-30, with a vision to 2050.

New air route expected to connect Cheongju and Van Don airports

A direct flight between Cheongju Airport and Van Don Airport will be opened, according to an agreement between Vietnamese local travel and tourism associations and their counterparts from South Korea, including the authorities of Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong and North Chungcheong.

The two sides have agreed to conduct joint marketing plans and promote cultural exchanges between central and local government agencies.

Nearly 70 Japanese universities seek Vietnamese students

About 70 Japanese universities participated in an education workshop on studying abroad held in Hanoi on November 26. Co-organized by the Vietnamese Association of Japan Alumni (VAJA) under the Vietnam - Japan Friendship Association and the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) under the Ministry of Education and Science of Japan, with support from the Japanese Embassy, the workshop has become the biggest event on study abroad in Vietnam, attracting 1,500 people, 67 universities, colleges in Japan and others in Hanoi and Vietnam.

Vietnam-UK promote bilateral cooperation in higher education

Nine Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between Vietnamese partners, universities and enterprises in the UK during the working visit of the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training delegation led by Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son to the UK last week. The visit aimed to promote educational cooperation between UK government agencies and the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training and enhance collaboration between Vietnamese and UK universities in teaching, learning, and research.

Hoan Kiem District may not merge with other district: Hanoi authorities

The Hanoi People's Committee may not merge Hoan Kiem District with another district because of its local cultural and historical values to the capital's thousand-year growth. The city government argued that Hoan Kiem District is in the heart of Hanoi and contains many historical and cultural sites that are fascinating tourist attractions. In late July, Hanoi Mayor Tran Sy Thanh said Hoan Kiem would have to be consolidated into another district because its land area did not meet the criteria for a district. Hoan Kiem covers only 5.3 km2 (15% of the required area for a district), but qualifies in terms of population with 156,000 people.

Diplomatic Academy President elected leader of Asian Law Society

Pham Lan Dung, acting president of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, became the first Vietnamese to be elected president of the Asian Society of International Law. As the eighth president of the society, Dung expected all scholars in the region and the world to contribute to raising people's awareness and strengthening law enforcement to ensure global security, balance and stability.
