Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre debuts

Defence Ministry hosted an inaugural ceremony for the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre with the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on May 27.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dam said establishing the centre and dispatching two officers on duty in the UN Mission in South Sudan is an event of political importance, marking Vietnam’s official participation in UN peacekeeping operations.

Emphasizing the peace establishment and peacekeeping, Dam said "Peace can only be constructed when unilateral actions contrary to international law are rejected. Peace can only be preserved when the countries no matter how big or small respect each other's independence, sovereignty and share peacekeeping responsibilities through practical and specific actions. "
"Vietnam experienced devastating wars against foreign invaders so it always has an earnest desire for peace. Vietnam will resolutely defend its sovereignty and legitimate interests in line with international law and always acts for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world,” Dam said.
Deputy PM also reiterated the national legacy of fighting enemies to preserve national independence and expressed his affinity towards peacekeeping officers and soldiers.
"You are not just soldiers of UN peacekeeping, but also representatives of the Vietnamese peace loving nation sacrificing for independence - freedom - happiness of the people and humankind." He noted.
Dam said he believes Vietnamese peacekeeping forces will always fulfill their tasks in accordance with the objectives and regulations of the UN, positively contributing to UN peacekeeping mission.
