Vietnam police, army generals in hot water

Among those high-ranking police and military officials facing disciplinary measures, vice minister and former vice minister of the Public Security in name of Bui Van Thanh and Tran Viet Tan violated regulations on state secret protection.

The Inspection Commission of the Party Central Committee on July 27 announced disciplinary measures and notices against a number of military and police generals, due to their violations and wrongdoings, according to the commission's website.

The list included Lieutenent General Le Van Minh, general director of the General Department of Logistics and Engineering (known as General Department IV) under the Ministry of Public Security, member of the ministry's Central Party Committee and chief of the General Department's Party Committee.

According to the commission, Minh must bear the responsibility for wrongdoings and violations of the Party Committee's Standing Board, as well as personal responsibility for his own mistakes in performing assigned duties and tasks. 

Lieutenant General Bui Xuan Son, former member of the Party Committee's Standing Board and former vice general director of General Department IV, has to take responsibility for letting violations take place when he was in charge. 

Lieutenant General Bui Van Thanh, vice minister of Public Security and member of the ministry's Central Party Committee, violated regulations on state secret protection, and unlawfully signed documents proposing the sale of several properties and land lots that belonged to the ministry.  

Senior Lieutenant General Tran Viet Tan, former vice minister of Public Security and former member of the ministry's Central Party Committee, was disciplined for his irresponsibility and failure in management. Tan also signed documents violating regulations of state secret protection, causing "serious consequences". 

The commission stressed violations made by the Standing Board of the Party Committee of General Department IV and by Minh and Son are serious, while those of Thanh are very serious.

The commission asked the Politburo of the Party to consider disciplinary measures against Lieutenant General Bui Van Thanh and Senior Lieutenant General Tran Viet Tan.

The other three high ranking police officials in the list of the commission were Lieutenant Generals Nguyen Van Chuyen and Ksor Nham. Both are deputy heads of the logistics-engineering department, and Lieutenant General Vu Thuat, former deputy head of the department. 

Also at the meeting, the Inspection Commission decided on discipline measures in the case of the Standing Board of the Party Committee of the Air Defense - Air Force Service under the Defense Ministry and related individuals, whose wrongdoings had been confirmed at the Inspection Commission's previous meeting.

They included Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, former secretary of the Party Committee and former Political Commissar of the Air Defense - Air Force Service, and Senior Lieutenant General Phuong Minh Hoa, former member of the Party Central Committee, former vice director of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army, former Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of the Air Defense - Air Force Service and the Service's former Commander.
