Vietnam Politburo requests demotion of two police generals

Two police generals face the prospect of being demoted and dismissed from their respective positions in the Party.

Vietnam's Politburo - the highest body of the Communist Party of Vietnam - on July 28 requested the government to demote Lieutenant General Bui Van Thanh, vice minister of public security, for his wrongdoings and violations, the government portal reported.

Additionally, the Politburo decided to dismiss Thanh from all his positions in the Party, including member of the ministry's Central Party Committee for the 2016 - 2021 term.

According to the Politburo, Thanh violated regulations on state secret protection, and unlawfully signed documents proposing the sale of several properties and land lots that belonged to the ministry, causing "serious consequences".

Besides Thanh, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Viet Tan, former vice minister of Public Security and former member of the ministry's Central Party Committee in the 2011 - 2016 term, faced similar disciplinary measures of being demoted to a lower rank.

Tan was disciplined for his irresponsibility and failure in management, signing documents violating regulations of state secret protection.

Senior Lieutenant General Phuong Minh Hoa, former member of the Party Central Committee, former vice director of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army, former Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of the Air Defense - Air Force Service and the Service's former Commander, received warning from the Politburo.

Previously, Hoa signed a number of documents allowing the use of land for economic purpose in violation of regulation.

One day earlier, the Inspection Commission of the Party Central Committee announced disciplinary measures and notices against a number of military and police generals, due to their violations and wrongdoings.
